For our production of Small Mouth Sounds, we wanted to be able to depict multiple different locations quickly: log cabins, a great hall, and the woods. In order to accomplish this, I came up with the idea of having shapes that were mobile and modular that could come together in different configurations and be all of our locations.
I designed them to be a sort of upside-down hockey stick that, when put point to point, looked like a house with a roof, and then, when apart and turned around, they had bark on them and looked like an abstract tree. For this, I mounted 2x4s to dolleys which I added a slanted top part to. I then stained them on one side and added textured canvas fabric to the other side. The result were these modular trees.
